Marcognac Land of Porcelain
Classified as a Historical Monument under the title of Industrial Archaeology, Marcognac is a quarry site that has been exploited since 1786 for 200 years. Located about forty kilometers south of Limoges, the quarries, the restored buildings and the tools allow visitors to follow in the footsteps of the men and women who contributed to the development of Limoges porcelain.
Today, the association "Marcognac Terre de Porcelaine" organizes guided tours or tours led by craftsmen (blacksmith, carpenter, ...) in order to discover the conditions of extraction of kaolin, the conditions of working life, but also the geological conditions that have favored the production of kaolin in the department.
