Walking

The hiker has more than 3200 km of walking trails that cover the Haute-Vienne from North to South. This is an activity that can be carried out alone or with friends. Like the Limousin, the Haute-Vienne is an all-year-round haven for walkers.

190 marked trails are accessible to walkers in the Haute-Vienne. Here can be found the Santiago de Compostela route, two country loops (Monts de Blond and the Monts d’Ambazac; still in the organisational stage), a through trail in Saint-Pardoux country and numerous rambling tracks.

On this site, more than 150 walking guides are available for walks between 4 and 40 km covering the whole of the Haute-Vienne, an area favourable for walking notably due to its hilly landscapes, streams and watercourses and an active and visible agriculture that has modelled the landscape. A picture postcard image for walkers who will never forget the good times spent walking in the Haute-Vienne.

Walking allows the rambler to discover the natural and architectural heritage of the Haute-Vienne; the trails lead the walkers through the history of the men and places of Haute-Vienne life. The small heritage is highlighted such as shepherd huts and laundries, lanterns of the dead, oratories, churches… without forgetting life in the towns and villages in their squares and market places. You'll follow countryside routes along stunning sunken paths. Don't hesitate to climb the heights and you'll be enchanted by the panoramas of the green Haute-Vienne landscapes.

Since 2004, the Haute-Vienne county council has had a policy favouring walks structured around the "départemental plan of walking and rambling itineraries" (PDIPR). Its objective is to establish a network of quality itineraries, promoting the discovery of the natural and cultural heritage of the Haute-Vienne. As a result, you can always find close to your residence or holiday home, one or several, walking trails. Whether for a half-day or a full day, follow well-maintained and well-marked quality trails.
