Châlucet Fortress

The mediaeval fortress of Châlucet is one of the major heritage sites of the Limousin built on the summit and slopes of a rocky outcrop. Two fortifications: lower Châlucet is the oldest (12^th – 16^th century) with the famous "Jeannette Tower" and higher Châlucet (13^th century) both a military establishment and a luxurious residence; dismantled by the Consuls of Limoges at the end of the 16^th century; one of the most beautiful ruins in France; excavations and consolidation work in progress.

From the origins around 1130 with the construction of the first castle, to the transformation of the palace by Géraud de Maulmont at the end of the 13th century, until its destruction, the different lives of Châlucet are told. The Ligoure forest park, a sensitive natural site

The Châlucet fortress and the adjacent Ligoure park are of great landscape, botanical and ornithological interest. The forest park of the Ligoure estate covers 40 hectares and is located at the confluence of the Ligoure river and the Gabie stream in the commune of Saint-Jean-Ligoure. It is part of a larger estate of 400 hectares, created in the second half of the 19th century by Frédéric Le Play.

The educational panels, set up along the whole trail, describe the historical, patrimonial and natural wealth of the places: each of the 10 stations that make up the trail are an opportunity to learn about the notable points of the site with clear and illustrated information.
