Unmissable, Vassivière Island

Vassivière Island will transport you on an initiatory voyage where centuries have entwined to give birth, in this magic place, to the improbable marriage of the architecture of Aldo Rossi and Xavier Fabre, architects of the International Centre for Art and Landscape, and that of the old château and agricultural estate of the Vassivière family carrying traces of the Creuse stonemasons.

For the pleasure of everyone, the island is pedestrianised. One can get there on foot, in a miniature train or more impressively, by water taxi.

The International Centre for Art and Landscape

The International Centre of Art, designed by Aldo Rossi and Xavier Fabre with its iconic architecture is comprised of two "opposite and complementary" entities: a tower-lighthouse covered in forest ivy and a straight-lined gallery nestling in a prairie and pointing toward the dam. Let yourself be amazed by the works of art that dominate an exceptional, powerful and beautiful landscape and lead you to walk to the viewpoint over looking nature and the masterpieces.
