Le Moulin du Got paper mill: paper and printing museum

à SAINT LEONARD DE NOBLAT
"Le Moulin du Got" paper mill is the last living testimony of Limousin's 17th century paper industry. It has brought old-fashioned skills back to life. The mill produces handmade paper, art cartoons, and printing works with techniques that date back to between the 15th and the 20th centuries. Visitors are invited to participate and to discover a know-how that is used for contemporary creations.
The mill's construction along the river Tard was authorized in 1433 and it became a paper mill in 1522.
Each year, approximately 2400 fine, square paper reams were produced, to supply Parisian printers.
"Le Moulin du Got" was one of the 84 mills in the Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat area.
The mill was mechanized in the 1820s and ran until 1954, making straw packaging paper, then a special type of cardbaord used for yoy molding.
« Le Moulin du Got » association was created in 1997. Its purpose is to preserve and to pass on the traditional skills of paper-making, printing and graphic arts.
The association hired 7 young full-time employees, who were trained by volunteers who used to work for the paper and printing industry. Our old machines have been working for over ten years, for our young employees, and each day, they produce top quality orders for demanding clients. "Le Moulin du Got" is part of the "Luxury and Excellence" network in Limousin. The mill has a boutique and organizes exhibitions regularly.
Visitors can take a tour of the mill thanks to our enthusiatic team of guides. Tours and paper-making/printing workshops are also available for schools.
