The “Roman” bridge

à CHATEAUPONSAC
The “Roman” bridge that crosses the Gartempe River in the direction of Saint-Pardoux was built at the beginning of the 17th century. It is based on an older bridge from the 11th century that was about to collapse and built using stones from gallo roman remains. There was certainly a bridge at this site during the gallo roman period because there is a roman road close to it; it may have been a wooden bridge.
